The Power of Virtue

The Oglala Lakota believe that all of creation is a part of the circle of life.
Every act has an effect on everything within the circle. A virtuous act
has a positive power that is multiplied through the circle
benefiting all creation.

Wakanyeja - the child

The child is at the center of a great circle of life, where the infrastructure and support are built around the youth. In this circle the first layer of support comes from the immediate family.

Tiospaye

Extended family members of Tiospaye, make up the next layers - they are also there to support the immediate family members.

Wakanyeja Pawicayapi

Wakanyeja Pawicayapi is the outside of circle of the Oyate (the people), providing the ultimate support to all members of the families. We call this a child-centered, strength-based approach.

Hocoka

The hocoka, or medicine wheel, form the basis for Lakota psychology, philosophy, spirituality, and culture. Each quadrant has a specific meaning and together they create the balance necessary for a healty life and world.

Our approach

Our approach includes returning to tradtional Oglala Lakota values within the context of modern day life.
